This subsystem allows for web-based listing of the clips available at the TV station and web-based browsing of the low-res copies of the material.

Low res browsing subsystem consists of one or more low resolution recorders, file server and web server.

The automation records in parallel both to the videoserver and to the low-res server so both contain the same material. Also recording of tape-based material to low res server is available (tape log).

The price of the low res browsing subsystem does not contain the necessary hardware (PCs, grabbing cards) and 3rd party software (operating system, database, web server).

Preview pictures/thumbnails

The automation can store the thumbnail pictures (picons) in the database. By default the first frame of the clip is automatically retrieved when the clip is recorded. The operator can override the default setting and select a more descriptive or appropriate thumbnail frame. Any AUTOMATION user can browse through the thumbnails using the database browser.
This feature depends on the videoserver's ability to provide either the thumbnails or at least the access to the video files in known formats. In the later case the automation reads the frame from the file and transcodes it into the thumbnail resolution.
