WestCom Broadcast Services GmbH Invests in the Future with Octopus Newsroom and Aveco - Implementation by LOGIC Media Solutions

WestCom Broadcast Services GmbH, renowned for producing SAT.1 NRW, has taken a significant step toward future-proofing its production infrastructure with the support of LOGIC Media Solutions GmbH. The key focus of this project was the implementation of the state-of-the-art NRCS system Octopus 11 and the powerful studio automation solution Aveco ASTRA Studio. Complementing this setup is Aveco Redwood WHITE, serving as both a playout server and graphics solution. The first live production using this new system was successfully conducted on December 6, 2024.

Cutting-Edge Technology for News Production

To enhance its HD-based infrastructure, WestCom recognized the need to modernize both its NRCS system and studio automation to streamline production workflows and adapt more efficiently to future demands. LOGIC integrated the Octopus NRCS system, which is equipped with 25 user licenses. This system provides SAT.1 NRW journalists with not only an intuitive user interface but also innovative tools like the Octopus journalist app, enabling remote access—an essential advantage for real-time and on-location news production.

By integrating Aveco ASTRA Studio and the Redwood WHITE system, WestCom has optimized workflows and efficiency in daily news production. Aveco’s ASTRA solutions cover live production, playout, and graphics control, ensuring maximum operational reliability. This future-proof technology not only enhances WestCom’s production capabilities but also lays the groundwork for sustainable workflow development.

Seamless Implementation and Long-Term Support

LOGIC Media Solutions managed the entire implementation process, conducted comprehensive training, and continues to support WestCom Broadcast Services GmbH with an ongoing service package.

"With Octopus and Aveco, we are leveraging powerful and reliable solutions from our portfolio that are perfectly tailored to the needs of modern news production. We are pleased to support WestCom Broadcast Services GmbH in this forward-looking initiative," said Thomas Heyer from LOGIC.

Jerome Steiner, Deputy CTO of WestCom Broadcast Services GmbH, added:

"With this new infrastructure, we are investing in a technological setup that is not only future-proof but also highly flexible. The combination of Octopus and Aveco allows us to efficiently manage the daily challenges of news production while staying fully prepared for future demands."
